Shingles brings excruciating pain!

One night in the middle of the night I was awakened by excruciating pain in my back and side.   I had no idea what brought it on and I had no other symptoms.

Approximately 4 days later, I awoke with what looked like a bug bite on my right side (in between my waist and hips).  Once again, no other symptoms.   The next day the “bug bite” looked more like Ringworm, but no other symptoms.   Then, almost a week later (from the initial pain in my back, side and torso in the middle of the night) I was diagnosed with Shingles.  I thought Shingles was the adult version of the Chicken Pox.  I had Chicken Pox as a kid and I just remember being tired and itchy.  So this was my anticipation.  WOW—was I surprised!!!

The itchiness is mild and minor compared to the Electric-Shock type of pain that comes from the various areas of the rash and my entire body aching and feeling like it is being wrung out like a wet dishrag from the inside out.  I can’t sleep.  I can’t get comfortable.   If you don’t catch it within the first 3 days or so, the Anti-Viral Meds that the doctors prescribe will not do you much good.

Therefore, I contacted a NaturalPath Doctor to see what my alternatives were.  She prescribed 3 days of back to back acupuncture, a Vitamin C IV drip, and prescription grade Vitamin D and A.   I had also started using Essential Oils (Melaleuca/Tea Tree, Eucalyptus, Lavender, Chamomile, Lemon & Bergot) mixed with Organic Coconut Oil directly on the rash, on my spine, and on the bottom of my feet..   Some people feel relief with cold packs, I noticed more comfort with warmth (ie: Heating pad).

I continued to ask people who had experienced shingles what they did and most people said they did nothing as they were given no options.  Some of these people ended up with permanent nerve damage.  Therefore, my homework continued.  As I researched, I discovered that you need to stay away from foods with Arginine (Tomatoes, Wheat, Brussel Sprouts, Grapes, Cashews, Pumpkin Seeds, Pecans, Blackberries, Blueberries, Peanuts, Chocolate and sugars).

I also found recommendations for Aloe Juice (taken internally), High dosages of Vitamin B supplements, L-Lysine, Vitamin C, Zinc, Co-Q10, Acetyl L-Carnitine, Vitamin E, Alpha-Lipoic Acid, Calcium/Magnesium supplements, and all Immune boosters (Royal Camu, Echanacia, Silver, Probiotics, etc….).

I also discovered great reviews about a supplement called NerveFix.  I just started that today, so I will keep you posted on my thoughts on that.

Please, if you know someone with Shingles…..understand it.  Be empathetic.  Realize how much pain they are in and they are probably working on NO sleep.  Can you make them a dinner?  Go Grocery shopping for them?  At a minimum….pray for them.  They are in a lot of pain!

Oh my gosh I got the shingles this year too. Was able to recognize and got on the drug within 72 hours. It could of been worst but was the worst pain for 6 weeks. It was painful and depressing. What can I do for you?. Please don’t hesitate to call.
